Amāre (Aimer) - Latin Translation
A/N: Guess who stumbled upon a Latin grammar textbook in her local library? Yeah, this took me awhile because I had some options. There was “Amoris pulchritudo” (The beauty of love), which would have been badass. There was also “Amor est pulcherrimus” (To love is the most beautiful), very close to the French. But I realized quickly that any starter word more than two syllables long would be murder, and I’m a stickler for accent stress. Hence, I took advantage of Latin’s syntactical flexibility. At least I got to keep the infinitive. Hope you enjoy!
Chorus (+ Juliette) Amor in noctem ardet (In noctem is ardet) Amor pretium habet (Amor pretium habet) Etiamsi nōs consūmeret Amor in nōs vīveret
Chorus (+ Romeo) Pulcer est bene amāre (Pulcer est amāre) Est ad summum surgere (Ad summum volāre) Et alas maiesti tangere Pulcer est bene amāre
Semper…
English Translation
Romeo It is beautiful to love well It is to rise to the highest And to touch the wings of majesty It is beautiful to love well
Juliet It is beautiful to love greatly To remain living in glory And to burn in the heart of a fire It is beautiful to love greatly
Both Love is the most powerful [It is] to give the best of us Love, and live in hope Love beyond fear
Chorus It is beautiful to love well It is to rise to the highest And to touch the wings of majesty It is beautiful to love well
It is beautiful to love greatly To remain living in glory And to burn in the heart of a fire It is beautiful to love greatly
Chorus (+ Juliet) Love burns in the night (It burns in the night) Love has a price (Love has a price) Even if it consumes us Love would live in us
Chorus (+ Romeo) It is beautiful to love well (It is beautiful to love) It is to rise to the highest (To fly to the highest) And to touch the wings of majesty It is beautiful to love well
Always…
#my lyrics#retj#romeo et juliette#aimer#cristina is losing her mind#ive always wanted to learn latin#it was the grammar that intimidated me#the vocabulary is super easy barely an inconvenience#if it’s no good#it will have to do until the real thing comes along#(the real thing being better latin proficiency on my part)#my toxic trait is that i translated aimer into old english before latin#mea maxima culpa#also latin doesn’t have as many -are verbs as it does -ere ones#at least for this song. so i just let it be

Pairings: Satoru Gojo/Suguru Getou, Satoru Gojo & Tsumiki Fushiguro, Satoru Gojo & Megumi Fushiguro, Suguru Geto & Mimiko Hasaba & Nanako Hasaba
Chapters: 9/17
Word Count: 131,325
Summary: They’re tangled together on the couch when Satoru brings up the boy with the sweetgum hair.
“He’s sorta scrappy looking,” Satoru describes poorly. “Short.”
“Short?” Satoru doesn’t need to see Suguru to know he’s giving Satoru a look - the one where he wrinkles up his chin and mouth, the one that says stop being stupid Satoru. It’s a common enough facial expression in the apartment. “Satoru, it sounds like he’s six. They’re all that height. It’s not their fault that you’re ungodly tall.”

would akechi speak multiple languages? cause at this point its basically canon that he soaks up information like a sponge. would he go all out and get dictionaries and textbooks and pronunciation guides or would he be able to learn just from watching shows in the target language?
im asking bc i wanna know if he would memorize every single verb tense in french. 99% of them are unnecessary, useless, needlessly specific, and so similar to like five others. but would akechi be able to use them properly.
#saiki k#saiki kusuo#the disastrous life of saiki k#saiki no psi nan#he would 100% be able to school a native speaker#most french people cant even get their verb tenses right all the time#i wanna hear akechi spitting french SO FAST that hes basically just a collection of the r sounds and keysmash#WOULD HE ROLL HIS RS?? oh my god.#i dont know enough about other languages to make stuff up for this so if anyone else is bilingual/studying another language please add on#theres a whole website ik dedicated to conjugating french verbs bc theres SO MANY#i feel like hed learn english first bc lingua franca. would he learn latin so that he know the proper names of animals and stuff????

If there is one thing I would like people to understand about Urianger it's that he is speaking an actual form of historical English that you can look up. It's not just random made-up Olde Timey Sounds. It's called Early Modern English, it has grammatical rules, and they're learnable!
#i keep sitting on this post because i worry it sounds bitchy and i don't mean it that way#if anything i hope it encourages people#yes learning a character's whole voice takes time#but the basics (pronouns and verb conjugations) are just a web search away#and i assume people don't look it up because they don't know WHAT to look up#like what it's called#i lean away from using 'shakespearean english' as a search term#not because it's incorrect but because shakespeare has a very distinctive style that isn't necessarily what you're going for here#and disclaimer i know sometimes posts are just Jokes and it doesn't matter#and i don't want to dunk on anyone who's doing their best with it#only to say you can learn it! and it's fun! and i believe in you!#ffxiv stuff#(i may also be working on a voice guide of my own. that'll be out at some point.)

just learned that the way we (in the US at least) typically learn japanese conjugation is almost completely different from how it actually works
I don't think I know enough yet to explain it fully but basically for example た (like when we say 行った or 食べた) and ます (like when we say 行きます or 食べます) can be conjugated themselves bc they're actually 助動詞
so that's how we end up with words like いらっしゃいませ bc the 〜ませ is a conjugation of ます
and also when we say 食べたら there's actually two conjugated pieces here which is the 動詞 (食べ, a conjugation of 食べる) and 助動詞 (たら, a conjugation of た)

#mocha speaks#japanese langblr#learning japanese#idk how common knowledge this is but. it broke my brain a little#I was just asking my partner why they split it into 五段 (godan) and 一段 (ichidan) verbs and he was like#we kinda oversimplified those concepts they're not really real#and I was like huh.#and then he told me there's actually 5 types#「五段活用」 「 上一段活用」 「 下一段活用」 「 カ行変格活用」 and 「サ行変格活用」#anyways. maybe after I finish studying this more I'll make a post explaining it

taichi, he’s back!
…he’s back. arata’s come home.
#chihayafuru#ayase chihaya#mashima taichi#wataya arata#taichihayarata#this time on: this show makes my brain get hot like an old laptop#i translated taichi’s final line differently than the original subs bc#taichi says that arata ‘’kaette kita’’ [verb]#rather than arata ‘’deteru’’ which taichi said EARLIER THIS SAME EPISODE when he reluctantly informed chy that arata was here#meaning arata ‘’emerged/came out/participated’’ and has a neutral connotation#and taichi didn’t say ‘’modotte kita’’ which is another neutral way to say someone has ‘’come back/returned’’#taichi saying ‘’kaette kita’’ is an acknowledgment that arata has returned Home/to a place he Belongs#txtit#reftranslation#anyway this show is a dissertation on love and it drives me INSANE!!!#taichi looking past his own jealousy and feelings of inferiority; overturning#the zero sum mindset ingrained in him since childhood bc he looks at chihaya who is overflowing with simple abundant love#and admits to himself that despite all this unnecessary resentment he loves and misses arata too#((there is an interesting clumsily articulated though im having w taichi being the most materially wealthy chara#with the deepest emotional wounds bc of a learned scarcity mindset encouraged by the society that keeps him/his fam wealthy.#capitalism critique??? in my shoujo sports manga???? listen i’ll go there every time baby it’s not likely it’s inevitable.))#tags outta hand. sry

The secret of speaking multiple languages is to not get attached to silly things such as accents and grammar. Like. I'll look you dead in the eye and say the most unhinged stuff using all the linguistic gymnastic skills I own trying to make up for words I don't remember and hope to get at least 50% of the message across
#like what is even embarrassment at this point#no shame whatsoever#and this is the only way to live#i literally said 'imádlak titeket többet' and bro straight up im surprised i got the imádlak right#hungarian verbs and sufixs are the death of me#yes i did say itt nincs karácsonyi fa#nincs igazi fa nincs nem igazi fa#because i did not remember the word for fake#so i just said not real#the mental gymnastics my brain does while speaking hungarian is not even funny at this point#'how will you study in colombia u dont know spanish'#b i learned hungarian in 7 months once#and somehow i still remember megszentsegtelenithetetlensegeskedeseitekert#(do not spell check me on it)#so like whats even spanish at this point#bilingual#byelingual#polyglot

Wait why not call it 'agent and object voice' instead of 'passive and active' voice? Feels more intuitive to me
#linguistics#my speech#language learning#tagalog makes more sense to me saying it this way#active andpassive i get are intuitive to english since the voice of transitive verbs gives a sense of targeting and action by the subject#by default. but idk.... a lot of linguistic jargon is so weirdly named lol why were white linguists so obsessed w greek and latin#just use normal words that make SENSE so i can get thru thisssss 😤

I’m so glad I was out of middle school before among us was a thing because my 8th grade Spanish class would NOT have been able to handle the third person possessive adjective ‘sus’.
#I’m taking a Spanish class over the summer for a humanities credit since I already took Spanish 1 in high school so I figured it’d be easy#but you know that post that’s like ‘being an artist makes you do stupid stuff like google table’#that’s me right now but I had to google the president because I couldn’t remember if he was bald#right now I’m just feeling the pain of having to remember which verbs we have and haven’t learned ye because if I use ones we haven’t#I’ll get points taken off because they’ll think I’m using google translate#which means I have to sometimes write stuff like ‘there is one cat in my family’ instead of ‘I have a cat’
