"keep me posted" is a fun phrase. what's that adjective doing in there. if someone keeps you posted you would not then be said to be "posted". after getting an update you don't say, "i'm so posted right now." i mean...you could, but everyone would assume you were making up new slang for plastered.
#you wouldn't really even say 'i have been kept posted' even though that uses the right verb and everything#though again. you could. you can do anything you want forever#fun with words#my posts#sentences that sound natural and *not natural and ?i'm not sure if they sound natural or not:#keep me posted [on the situation]. keep me apprised [of the situation]. keep me abreast [of any new developments].#keep me up to date [on any new developments].#*i have been kept posted on the situation. *i am posted on the situation.#i have been kept apprised of the situation. ?i am apprised of the situation.#?i have been kept abreast of the situation. *i am abreast of the situation.#i have been kept up to date on the situation. i am up to date on the situation.#wait maybe no one says keep me abreast of whatever. maybe it's just stay abreast? i'm staying abreast of the situation?#how does anyone ever learn any language

Honestly as an ESL speaker and teacher I wish all variations of Standard English were more like their regional dialectal counterparts
#do you understand how difficult it is teaching kids subject verb agreement when i know#that there are black american & Afro Caribbean dialects that have done away with plural forms completely#also teaching the verb to be....... it's actually less intuitive to ESL kids to have to learn is/am/are/be conjugations#people always say Chinese is a difficult language but its not difficult to learn to speak it at all. the writing system is difficult but#other than that...this is a language where all vocabs are very literal compound words; numerical system more intuitive than the English one#and there are no plural or tense forms conjugations; if you need to convey plurality or different tenses you just add the same few suffixes#TO EVERY NOUN AND VERB RESPECTIVELY#anyway these are my Friday morning thoughts ig#language tag#everytime I have to mark a kid wrong for using singular they/them pronouns / using the wrong verb to be / etc I'm so annoyed

Lately I hang out often with my neighbour and her 6 year old child. And the child is so anxious and thrilled to learn new things that we sometimes have to calm her down so that she can take in the latest information.
Often, she asks "Can I do [something she sees us adults do]?" and she insists, even for things that could be completely unreasonable, like carrying a way too heavy for her thing. But she wants to learn and feel older so she asks.
I am learning a lot of things lately too. One of them is driving the tractor in the farm. And so I found myself asking my father "Can I drive it?" for a small task. And I felt like a child again.
Maybe I wouldn't have remembered what it was if I didn't have my child neighbour around as often, but I really got her thrill at that moment, why she constantly wants to do new things.
I have learnt a lot of things in my life and I keep learning new things and finding new things to learn. And one thing I realised this year is that I actually enjoy learning, the process itself. Noticing in myself how the thing I'm learning goes from unfamiliar to familiar to becoming a skill. I have always liked seeing how other people learn, I didn't know I could observe it in myself.
So it's fun to ask "Can I drive the tractor?" as an adult. "Can I do your adult thing, older adult? Can I learn?"
#In Autumn this year my brain understood how to spin wool#it was the same feeling as that summer I was travelling around Russia in train and my brain understood the aspect of verbs#after 10 years of studying Russian my brain assimilated that information#and after 3 months of irregular practice I understood spinning#I love learning so much it's unreal#it's the best feeling

having a day where i just want to give up on literally everything
#i dont want to read about grammar anymore. its boring as fuck and trying to understand how to form a proper sentence#just leads me down this endless void of accusatives and datives and infinitives and transitives and participates and particles and#i come out of it feeling like i learned nothing helpful. and like i have to study this entire other area of stuff#just to even have the *potential* to learn how not to sound like an idiot when i form sentences#i dont want to constantly look up the 73 conjugates every verb has either (and then not be able to find the correct one because i#need to have a master's degree in grammar to understand which one to use!)#I'm also dead tired of this circuits course. All it's done is put some sense into me and convinced me to revert back to my focus on digital#signal processing. I'm no long having any fun with this. I'm also tired of my digital logic class because I'm not interested in building#a new CPU architecture from scratch out of CMOS chips and as a result most of this shit means nothing to me. It's also convinced me that#the advantages of FPGAs are not at all worth the trade-offs compared to microcontrollers. at least not for me.#Verilog is a shitty ass language and Vivado is a shitty ass software#i wanna rip my own head off while doing a backflip

taichi, he’s back!
…he’s back. arata’s come home.
#chihayafuru#ayase chihaya#mashima taichi#wataya arata#taichihayarata#this time on: this show makes my brain get hot like an old laptop#i translated taichi’s final line differently than the original subs bc#taichi says that arata ‘’kaette kita’’ [verb]#rather than arata ‘’deteru’’ which taichi said EARLIER THIS SAME EPISODE when he reluctantly informed chy that arata was here#meaning arata ‘’emerged/came out/participated’’ and has a neutral connotation#and taichi didn’t say ‘’modotte kita’’ which is another neutral way to say someone has ‘’come back/returned’’#taichi saying ‘’kaette kita’’ is an acknowledgment that arata has returned Home/to a place he Belongs#txtit#reftranslation#anyway this show is a dissertation on love and it drives me INSANE!!!#taichi looking past his own jealousy and feelings of inferiority; overturning#the zero sum mindset ingrained in him since childhood bc he looks at chihaya who is overflowing with simple abundant love#and admits to himself that despite all this unnecessary resentment he loves and misses arata too#((there is an interesting clumsily articulated though im having w taichi being the most materially wealthy chara#with the deepest emotional wounds bc of a learned scarcity mindset encouraged by the society that keeps him/his fam wealthy.#capitalism critique??? in my shoujo sports manga???? listen i’ll go there every time baby it’s not likely it’s inevitable.))#tags outta hand. sry

Amāre (Aimer) - Latin Translation
A/N: Guess who stumbled upon a Latin grammar textbook in her local library? Yeah, this took me awhile because I had some options. There was “Amoris pulchritudo” (The beauty of love), which would have been badass. There was also “Amor est pulcherrimus” (To love is the most beautiful), very close to the French. But I realized quickly that any starter word more than two syllables long would be murder, and I’m a stickler for accent stress. Hence, I took advantage of Latin’s syntactical flexibility. At least I got to keep the infinitive. Hope you enjoy!
Chorus (+ Juliette) Amor in noctem ardet (In noctem is ardet) Amor pretium habet (Amor pretium habet) Etiamsi nōs consūmeret Amor in nōs vīveret
Chorus (+ Romeo) Pulcer est bene amāre (Pulcer est amāre) Est ad summum surgere (Ad summum volāre) Et alas maiesti tangere Pulcer est bene amāre
Semper…
English Translation
Romeo It is beautiful to love well It is to rise to the highest And to touch the wings of majesty It is beautiful to love well
Juliet It is beautiful to love greatly To remain living in glory And to burn in the heart of a fire It is beautiful to love greatly
Both Love is the most powerful [It is] to give the best of us Love, and live in hope Love beyond fear
Chorus It is beautiful to love well It is to rise to the highest And to touch the wings of majesty It is beautiful to love well
It is beautiful to love greatly To remain living in glory And to burn in the heart of a fire It is beautiful to love greatly
Chorus (+ Juliet) Love burns in the night (It burns in the night) Love has a price (Love has a price) Even if it consumes us Love would live in us
Chorus (+ Romeo) It is beautiful to love well (It is beautiful to love) It is to rise to the highest (To fly to the highest) And to touch the wings of majesty It is beautiful to love well
Always…
#my lyrics#retj#romeo et juliette#aimer#cristina is losing her mind#i’ve always wanted to learn latin#it was the grammar that intimidated me#the vocabulary is super easy barely an inconvenience#if it’s no good#it will have to do until the real thing comes along#(the real thing being better latin proficiency on my part)#my toxic trait is that i translated aimer into old english before latin#mea maxima culpa#also latin doesn’t have as many -are verbs as it does -ere ones#at least for this song. so i just let it be

made progress with language lessons and got my first ZERO PERCENT SCORE because i'm really bad at grammar apparently
#i was able to redeem it with my focused review and get a hang of everything!#but i really got mixed up with sentence particles and word order#ive never been good with grammar identification though. even with english (which is my native language and the only one i speak)#like... yeah. i know how words work! but i dont know how to describe how they work#i had to relearn what verbs and adjectives were by definition#i knew what a noun was and that was it#but im slowly but surely getting it#very very slowly#im proud of myself for sticking with it though#im already beginning to identify words while watching videos#even without subtitles i was able to tell that some guy was talking about his super expensive car#and when i read comments i can understand individual words sometimes#so hey. progress#bees ramblings#sidenote: how do i articulate saying i got into learning japanese because of susumu hirasawa#i kid and i joke. hes not the only reason#i can note a good several reasons actually but anyway#this has gone on for too long#tag ramble over

Just Joong's characters saying คิดถึง-คิดถึง (I missed you so much)
#joong archen#2Moons2#2 Moons 2 the series#2 Moons 2#star and sky: sky in your heart#star in my mind#parallels#just [something] collection#*brace's#//#one of the thai teachers I follow for random lessons was talking about how to use the verb คิดถึง (to miss)#and I couldn't help but think of my favorite way of using it—which I learned from Khabkluen but recently noticed Ming using too#and at this point I think it might be a Joong thing because??? why only his characters say it??? I haven't caught anyone else yet#anyways. actually what he's saying is the verb คิดถึง (kít tĕung) twice for emphasis.#so instead of a simple ''(I) miss(ed) (you)'' it comes out as ''(I) miss(ed)-MISS(ED) (you)''#I missed you so much I missed you DOUBLE#😆😆

The secret of speaking multiple languages is to not get attached to silly things such as accents and grammar. Like. I'll look you dead in the eye and say the most unhinged stuff using all the linguistic gymnastic skills I own trying to make up for words I don't remember and hope to get at least 50% of the message across
#like what is even embarrassment at this point#no shame whatsoever#and this is the only way to live#i literally said 'imádlak titeket többet' and bro straight up im surprised i got the imádlak right#hungarian verbs and sufixs are the death of me#yes i did say itt nincs karácsonyi fa#nincs igazi fa nincs nem igazi fa#because i did not remember the word for fake#so i just said not real#the mental gymnastics my brain does while speaking hungarian is not even funny at this point#'how will you study in colombia u dont know spanish'#b i learned hungarian in 7 months once#and somehow i still remember megszentsegtelenithetetlensegeskedeseitekert#(do not spell check me on it)#so like whats even spanish at this point#bilingual#byelingual#polyglot

If there is one thing I would like people to understand about Urianger it's that he is speaking an actual form of historical English that you can look up. It's not just random made-up Olde Timey Sounds. It's called Early Modern English, it has grammatical rules, and they're learnable!
#i keep sitting on this post because i worry it sounds bitchy and i don't mean it that way#if anything i hope it encourages people#yes learning a character's whole voice takes time#but the basics (pronouns and verb conjugations) are just a web search away#and i assume people don't look it up because they don't know WHAT to look up#like what it's called#i lean away from using 'shakespearean english' as a search term#not because it's incorrect but because shakespeare has a very distinctive style that isn't necessarily what you're going for here#and disclaimer i know sometimes posts are just Jokes and it doesn't matter#and i don't want to dunk on anyone who's doing their best with it#only to say you can learn it! and it's fun! and i believe in you!#ffxiv stuff#(i may also be working on a voice guide of my own. that'll be out at some point.)
